Customer Review: Good for portable, very bad for archival purposes.
First of all, the $279 Price Tag can’t be right. I bought this at Guitar Center for $60.
It’s pretty decent for a portable turntable if you want to take something small and light out to the record store to sample some music before you buy. It has a decent built in speaker/headphone jack/and RCA outputs. This is nice for when you want to listen to records somewhere other than where your main stereo set up is.
As far as archiving, this is a piece of junk. If you really don’t care about preserving all the great quality from your vinyl then you won’t mind but this thing can’t really handle most music. Also, the program it comes with kind of sucks.
I would recommend spending a decent amount of money on a heavier turn table and upgrading the sound card on your computer if you care about quality. Even if you decide to buy this, don’t pay more than $75.

Very reasonable price. Comes with USB cable and necessary software, which I was not expecting. I used the machine to transfer old 78 records to CD. Some of these records dated to the early 1900’s. The results were excellent. The machine has input jacks for connecting a tape player to put cassettes onto CD.

What more can i say? If your starting and your looking to invest your money in a sound product..1200’s….If your seasoned and still spinning vinyl..than you should already know. The 1200 has stood the test of time and is going nowhere! Look for other reviews on longevity or quality and theyll point you in this direction and i have yet to regret it!

I couldn’t be happier w/ my choice of the SL1200MK5. It’s perfect for someone who wants great quality without spending ridiculous money. It’s solidly built, and heavy, which just gives it this wonderful feeling of quality and reliability. This thing feels very precise and well thought out. I know that these turntables are the standard for DJs, and that means that they’ve been tested and refined over the years. They really have figured it out. From the moment I lifted the thing out of the box, I could just tell it was perfect for me. I’m a recording engineer, and wanted to complete my home stereo setup w/ good sounding vinyl. Now I’m spoiled by this thing, and am considering buying one for the studio, just to inspire me to make better sounding recordings. Also, the rubber feet are amazing at squelching vibrations from the floor. You can jump around and shake your booty all night, without records skipping on you, another advantage of it being developed for DJs.
OK, you can tell I love this thing, I’ve said enough.

Customer Review: A Great Turntable
The Stanton T92 is a solid built and excellent performing turntable. I bought it for converting my vinyl records to mp3 format and it works perfectly for that task. It comes with a Stanton 500.v3 cartridge which works very well for 33 and 45 rpm records. If you are going to record 78 records you will need to purchase an additional cartridge that is made specifically for use with 78 records. A hard acrylic dust cover would be the one thing I would like to see added to this already fine product.
In previous reviews of Stanton USB turntables, many have complained about not being able to hear the audio as it is recorded on the computer. If your equipment and software are configured properly, you can hear the audio as it is being captured.
My setup for recording is as follows:
1) The T92 is connected to the computer via the provided USB cable.
2) The computer soundcard Line Out jack is connected to a set of powered stereo speakers.
3) I use the free download of Audacity 1.2.6 available at [...] for capturing the recording. Be sure to set the Preferences in Audacity as follows:
- Playback Device: The computer’s soundcard.
- Recording Device: USB Audio Codec - Input
- Check the “Software Play Through” box. (This is what allows you to hear the audio as you record it).
With this configuration you will be able hear the audio as you record it. The switchable Phono Out/Line Out capability also allows you to connect the turntable to your home stereo system when not using it with the computer for audio capture.

Customer Review: Awesome Product for Recording Vinyl (and more)
The people complaining about the sound quality being too weak from a turntable probably did not know how to use the Final Vinyl software. When you first hook up a turntable, the sound is kind of tinny, but there is a special option in the Final Vinyl EQ for turntables. Once you turn this on, the sound is deep and rich just as if you had hooked up the unit to a preamp. There was a whole PDF document on how to use Final Vinyl included on the CD-ROM which explains this.
I’ve been using an iMic for years to rip vinyl and do mobile recording, and I love it. The sound quality is great, it’s just as good as the professional audio interfaces I have in my home studio from MOTU. The Final Vinyl software is a little buggy and crashes every so often when creating a new audio document, but it has never crashed on me during recording and I have never lost any work as a result. I typically record using Final Vinyl and then edit the recordings in Garage Band or Logic Express, but Final Vinyl does let you trim the recording and split it up if you want to do it there.
The only issue I have had with vinyl recordings is that I get some ground hum from my turntable since it’s not connected to a grounding terminal. I have the old iMic which just had RCA inputs, but I see that Griffin has updated the iMic’s cable to include a grounding screw. I’m considering upgrading to get this feature and then using my old iMic as a spare/secondary interface.
Customer Review: Good while it worked.
I purchased the Griffin Turntable Connector to use with my Technics turnatable and my iMac G5 to rip a huge album collection to AIFF files.
The Griffin unit worked well for several hours (however, it does NOT have the RIAA curve converter built in like a good pre-amp would) then began to sound distorted. A few days later,I tried to use it and it stopped working altogether.
An e-mail to Griffins help department stated that the unit couldn’t go bad or quit working and told me to try different USB ports on my computer. I tried this, however the unit still did not work. A second e-mail to Griffin received the reply of “Some MAC’s develop problems with the drivers for the USB system preventing certain devices from working properly…went on to suggest my MAC needed a new USB card etc. There is nothing wrong with the computer- every other accessory works all the time. I even tried the Griffin unit on a MAC tower at work. It did not work on it either. Sending an e-mail with those results received no reply from Griffin. A lot of money for a product lasting less than twenty hours of use!
Do yourself a favor. Buy a good pre-amp and the cables to connect to the audio inputs on your computer and forget the Griffin Turntable Connector.

I was happy to see the mention of KAB and the dust cover hinges. I wanted to make note that when you buy any ‘1200 from KAB you automatically get not only the hinge kit installed, but you get the thicker audiophile mat and a full QC inspection as well. Stock, The MK5 and M5G both come with a thin rubber mat. this may not be tall enough to set tonearm height correctly with short squat cartridges. The thicker mat solves that and improves the sound as well. Of course, the mat is available separately as well. [...]
Customer Review: Grand Master amazes
The Flagship of the Technics Turntables, the SL1210M5G is the 30th Anniversary edition of the legendary SL1200 line. This fully manual unit has been going strong since the ’70’s and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The deck was originally built as a high end home audio component, but has become honored by most club DJ’s because of it’s rugged build and many DJ enhancements over the years.
I selected this version for my home turntable because of the oxygen free wiring and other tone arm improvements and high quality phono cables. After many inconsistent speed issues with belt drive turntables, I am pleased with the very durable and ultra quiet brushless DC motor that powers the Technics units.
This turntable is ready to go for home enthusiasts or DJ’s. It comes complete with a rubber platter mat, a slip mat, a head shell, cartridge alignment tool and a non attached dust cover. If needed, a hinge kit is available from KAB USA. All that’s needed is a phono cartridge. There are many to choose from, either hi-fi or DJ.

Customer Review: Great concept, not executed as well as necessary
I had the same sort of hum problem as others have reported. It sure sounds like a poor ground, except that in my case the hum (low volume but noticeable) got onto the recordings and was at an intolerable volume level on the line out and the headphone jack. I worked with Numark tech support (similar long waits for someone to respond), but they were not able to help so I tried to return it to Amazon’s supplier - Etronics - for a replacement. Unfortunately, their conditions are totally unreasonable - you have to pay shipping and insurance and the box must be undamaged and without any extra tape!!! For gosh sakes, my wife wrapped it for me as a gift, so it had extra tape. (One wonders if their business approach is to repackage defective returned items and send them to others as new.) Then I tried to return it directly to Numark and it took 2 weeks to get the return label. They were very polite and do pay shipping, however, so my unit is now on its way to Numark for repair. Let’s hope it comes back OK, because it really is a pretty decent product. Other than the hum, my biggest gripe is that the “autotrack” feature is hit and miss, often placing the new tracks in the wrong places. I found it more accurate to set the track marks myself, manually. Another gripe - the software for editing the sound only works with MP3 format, and when you copy it to a computer it sends the audio as MP3, so you cannot produce truly high fidelity recordings through a computer - only if you record directly from the unit to the CD do you capture the full original fidelity. But that part works fine except for the hum and the autotrack. The autotrack I can live with. The hum will have to be fixed or I’ll return it for good. Bottom line - if you can get one that doesn’t have the hum, it works as a turntable, as a CD recorder or for CD playback, and is relatively easy to use considering the complexities of what it does.
By the way, Numark says the ION unit is essentially the same, although one source claimed the ION can only handle one speed. The Numark can handle 33, 45 or 78 RPM.
Customer Review: Good turntable but a non-techie needs needs more into to stop hum
The Numark LP2CD turntable works well but the manual does not
cover enough information for a non-techie to trouble shoot. The turntable works on my new receiver but not as the manual suggests, you activate the phono switch on the turntable and then connect the turntable either to the Tape in and CD in slot in the back of the receiver. The my new receiver needs to have the turntable cable with a grounding wire which the Numark turntable cable lacks. The result is a hum and using the tape or cd in slot stops the hum.( P.S. a call to Numark Tech support did not direct me to this conclusion, I found it by trial and error)

Customer Review: Works, but frustratingly not all the time. Not consistent!
When it works, it works great. Do not know if the problem in it’s inconsistency is the turntable, the EZ Audio Converter program, or what. When I mean inconsistent, I’m talking about recording about 6 records, and when all is said and done, only 2 records were successfully recorded to Mp3 then to Itunes (So imagine my frustration after trying to transfer an album that has a recording time around 1 hour)…and there is no way of knowing if it has recorded ’till after you’ve wasted your time…I spoke with Ion’s people and they sent me an update for the Ez Audio Converter. Still the same result. I’m noticing that there is a pattern also with colored vinyl that it just will not do the vinyl to mp3 transfer. With black colored vinyl, there is a 50% chance of it not working.

Customer Review: Good, solid turntable, excellent for the price
This is a solid, solid product (literally, it is really heavy) and for the price gives you a great value. I didn’t buy it to DJ with, but rather as a recording device to transfer lp’s and especially old 78’s to the computer.
One note, despite what some websites say, this turntable, like other high end units, does NOT come with a cartridge. It uses a universal headshell, though, so getting a cartridge shouldn’t be hard. Most high end turntables come without a cartridge, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.
As far as the bundled software goes, the package with this isn’t that great, but most of the bundled packages aren’t much beyond basic recording. Audacity, which is a freeware product, is decent,but if you want to do really heavy duty recording it would be better to purchase something like Nero. This product is sold as a pro turntable, so it isn’t surprising that it doesn’t come with great recording software, since pro’s will already have software.
It can be finicky to adjust this, and the instructions are not necessarily that easy to follow. However, it isn’t hard to set this up, and even the balancing, which some people complain about, isn’t hard, and once done it makes adjusting the weight on the cartridge a breeze.
In playback, because the unit is so rugged, it doesn’t skip when you walk by it as cheaper turntables with and makes it a pleasure to work with. The other nice feature is that you can fine tune the motor speed, which especially for older recordings that were recorded too high, makes it easy to play them back as they were supposed to be. The unit has digitial metering for pitch, that makes this easy to do.
One note, like many modern turntables, this unit features a line out/phono setting on the rca output. The phono is supposed to be for using in units that don’t have a phono input, to stop you from having to have a phono pre amp. What I found, using this with a Bose wavesystem, is that the line out is the way to do it, the phono doesn’t work, I suspect that is only needed on older units. Some people on other places have said they needed a pre amp, try unsing the line out if the phono doesn’t work…
Overall, a good unit, and a value for the money.

Customer Review: Not bad, a little complex at times
I bought this for my mother-in-law, who wanted to put the hundreds of LPs sitting in her living room on her new Ipod Classic. Initial setup of the turntable was straightforward, and we were listening to classic James Taylor in minutes. Putting that same music on the Ipod and being able to catalog it was a bit more difficult, but not impossible.
One thing that threw my for a loop was the actual process of recording. I was very worried at first that her Ipod wouldn’t be compatible, even though I had checked and cross-checked before purchasing the turntable. The ‘record’ function on the Ipod didn’t appear until it was docked with the turntable. Once I docked it, easy peasy.
I found the included software to be a bit cumbersome to record whole albums, so we decided to just pick the songs we wanted, record them on the voice recorder, and then convert them on the computer. It’s not as seamless as I was hoping for, but I can’t complain about the quality.
If you have a lot of albums and don’t want to buy the CD’s, this is the way to go. Don’t plan on doing it all in one weekend though, as you have to (nay, GET to) listen to the whole song (or album) and babysit the record and pause buttons on the turntable.
Customer Review: Shockingy poor qualiy
The moment I removed the Ion LPDock USB Turntable from its box I realized that purchasing it was a mistake.
I am shocked at extremely poor quality in design, materials and assembly.
The case, made of cheap and thin plastic, looks flimsy and ready to break at the lightest touch. The unit feels very light, unlike any turntables I’ve used. Platter lining, made of packaging-like material (not rubber like it should be) feels ready to break.
The tone arm came in 3 pieces: a very cheap cartridge, decent S-shaped main piece, and balancer with a plastic dial at the end. Needle pressure setup instructed rotating the balancer to find balance point (zero pressure), and then rotate counterclockwise to find 3.5 gram pressure. Dial weight numbers increased clockwise, so finding proper needle pressure took many attempts. I finally set it up by trial and error.
On/off button is inconveniently located towards the back of the unit. I pressed it, then pressed a large play/pause button. Platter began to spin, but the tonearm remained motionless. Amazing, but true: this unit does not have automatic tonearm cueing; you have to bring it up to beginning of the record by hand!
All records sounded flat, with almost on bass and brittle, harsh upper tones. Poor electrical components complement cheap unit housing well.
I’ve tried connecting my three Ipods: Nano, Classic and Touch to a flimsy docking station, inconveniently located in the far left corner of the unit, making it impossible to close the optional $40 plastic dust cover with Ipod connected.
An array of buttons operated play/pause and menu/scroll functions, but no sound came out from any of my 3 ipods through the turntable and I was unable to record from vinyl to any of them. Instruction manual lists which ipods the turntable works with (5th generation, etc.). Not one of my ipods, including the latest Classic and Touch could play through or record from this turntable. Even Ipod recharge function did not work.
In short this $200+ turntable plays records very poorly, and does not record from vinyl to ipod as claimed.

If you want the best sound quality, Ortofon is pretty much the way to go, but that’s not to say the whitelabels are bad. They aren’t by a long shot. Top of the line for probably the second best sounding cartridge manufacturer. But the big reason DJs grab these is their spectacular grip on a record. I’ve never seen one of these skip, ever. If you’re a rough DJ or you like to scratch, get this. The downside to that is that it has been known to wear out vinyl faster than other cartridges, but if you read the instructions and weigh it down less (say 2.0 max) you should be fine. Top notch needle.

Customer Review: Great turntable for any style of DJing
These are great decks, and certainly hold their own against the industry standards. I’ve also got a pair of Technics (SL-1200M3D) that I’ve had for years. No complaints with those, of course, but I picked up the TTX1s so I could have a pair set up battle-style and more suited for scratching (straight tonearm, etc.).
Right out of the box, I could see that these were well-made turntables. The construction is quite solid. I believe they even weigh in slightly heavier than the 1200s.
For the price of these, the range of features is amazing. Here are some of them:
Selectable pitch control range (+/- 8%, 10%, 20% and 50%) - I tend to stick with +/- 8 because that’s what I’m used to with the Technics, but for the occasional crazy mix, it’s nice to have the option of greater range. The turntable also has a key lock feature, which allows you to adjust the tempo while the pitch stays the same. This is a very cool feature that CD DJs enjoy, so having it available for vinyl is fantastic.
Interchangeable tonearm - The tables come with both a straight and an S-shaped tonearm. They are very easy to switch out, but to be honest, I don’t find myself changing them a lot. I just stick with the straight configuration, but for someone who might be using these for both turntablism and conventional DJing, the ability to switch would be great.
Designed for battle-style use - For those who like to work battle-style (the turntable positioned so the tonearm is in back rather than on the right side), the TTX1 is designed to easily accommodate that preference. As you can see from the photo, there are two start/stop buttons, so regardless of which way you have it turned, there will always be a button right where you’re used to having it. Also, the pitch slider module and the RPM selection buttons module are interchangeable, so you can position the pitch slider to move up and down while in battle configuration (rather than having to adjust the pitch left to right). When you switch these controls, the LCD display automatically rotates so all of the info is still easily readable; a very nice touch.
Adjustable torque - Two thumbwheels on the turntable allow you to adjust the torque of the platter as well as the braking force. Compare this to the Technics, where you had to take the turntable apart and adjust some potentiometers with a small screwdriver. While on the subject of torque, I should mention that the TTX1 is insane in that department. The motor is quite noticeably more powerful than that of the Technics, and the start/stop times are phenomenal.
Output options - The TTX1 allows for three output configurations. You can output a phono-level signal (like most other turntables). This tends to be the cleanest signal because it’s more or less a straight connection to the cartridge without going through the signal processor. The turntable also has line-level outputs (more like a CD player). These go through the internal signal processor to enable effects like the pitch lock feature. I have mine set up like this, and cannot discern any degradation in sound quality from the phono configuration. The third option is a digital (S/PDIF) output for use with a digital mixer or a direct connection to your computer.
I am hard-pressed to find anything bad to say about this product. There are a few minor things, but they’re not big concerns. Here are the cons:
The left side of the turntable has a curve to it, which would make the turntable difficult to fit into a standard coffin case, if that was your preference.
The 45 adapter that comes with these is a light plastic thing, so I tend to use the solid metal ones that came with my 1200s. There’s no place on the turntable to store the adapter, which isn’t too big of a deal, since most people won’t be spinning a lot of 7″ 45s these days anyhow.
The turntable doesn’t include a shell (dust cover). The TTX1 isn’t really designed to sit on top of your home stereo anyway, so that omission isn’t a big concern.
Overall, this is a fantastic turntable, and well deserving of the five stars I’m giving it. It’s worthy to stand up there with the great decks from Technics and Vestax. I’m quite confident that these will give me many years of reliable use, just as I’ve come to expect from my 1200s.

well, i’m upgrading from the numark pro TT-1 and these are much better. the motors are much more powerful, forcing me to adjust mixing styles. The interchangable tonearms are neat, though i haven’t really gotten into using them yet.

Customer Review: Audible wow & flutter
Initially, I was impressed with the overall sound quality of this turntable. But then, the more I listened to it, the more I noticed the wow & flutter on most of my records (a slightly “draggy” sound quality - most notable on piano or acoustic music). My ear is quite critical of variations in speed and I couldn’t listen to my records on this player without hearing it. However, most casual listeners may not notice this and, for them, this turntable might be a pretty good bargain. Keep in mind, though, that this is designed for DJ use and has the short, straight tonearm which is great for scratching - not so great for audiophile ears. For critical listening, turntables with an S-shaped tonearm are highly recommended. Bottom line, I returned my T-50X and will most likely get the Audio Technica AT-PL120.

I purchased this turntable for $250 5 yrs ago after my 1 yr old Sony belt drive fell apart. I figured a direct drive was worth the investment since it has fewer moving parts. While it has far surpased the Sony in both sound quality and reliability, I didn’t expect it to stop working after just a few yrs of gentle use. I can’t deny that I have loved this turntable but I’m left wondering if it’s possible to find a player that won’t let me down!
Customer Review: Great for the price - Lengthy but informative review
I have been using these for a year and a half. These turntables are ideal for people who want to try DJing out. These aren’t the best for anyone who wants turntables for pro applications. I would have to disagree with Mike about beat matching. If you know how to beat match, these are very good. They start and stop instantaneously, and hold their speed perfectly. These turntables have an equal torque to the Technics 1200, but less than some numark and other stanton turntables. You don’t need all the extra torque to DJ. You can beat match and scratch very well with these.
There are two things you must consider when buying turntables. Firstly, you have to decide whether you are going to DJ or just listen to music. If you are just listening, you need an S-shaped tone arm. These turntables have straight tone arms. The S-shaped gives superior sound quality, so this is not the deck for you. If you are DJing, this is better for scratching than mixing, because mixing is better with better sound quality. So mixing is better with an S-shaped ton arm. If you are doing both scratching and mixing, I say go with the S-shaped, and use scratch needles with extra weight - but only scratch records that you aren’t afraid of ruining. There are many different straight and S-shaped turntables. Your style makes your choice.
The only gripe I have with the STR8-80 is that the body is made of plastic. If you want your turntables to last a very long time, plastic is unacceptable. Go with the stanton 150s or technics 1200s. Another feature that this turntable doesn’t have that the two aforementioned do is the ability to change the height of the tone arm for stabilty.
This is better for newbies, like me when I started.
I just regret not saving up for a few more weeks, to get a longer lasting set. These have been good to me so far, but I don’t have faith in their plastic bodies.
Here’s a tip for if you do buy turntables like this, that have key correction. Sure the key correction is a cool little tool, but you sacrifice sound quality and volume. You shouldn’t really mix songs that are have very dissimilar tempos, so use phono output (louder and does not allow key correction).

This turntable setup makes creating MP3’s from vinyl albums a breeze. You don’t need to hook it up to a stereo system or computer system to make the recordings - it’s all done on board the turntable. There are still analog phono outputs to use. Assembly was easy. The cartridge came mounted, but was a low-quality Audio-Technica one. If you’re an audiophile, as I am, you may want to consider getting a better cartridge. The ony caveat is, after talking with their tech support, is a high output cartridge may over drive the on-board electronics into clipping. Tech support couldn’t tell me what output millivolt limit I should keep it under. So I looked up some Audio-Technica specs and got an idea of their output, and found an Ortofon ArkivOrtofon Concorde Arkiv Kit - DJ Cartridge includes extra stylus concorde-style cartride to use. So far, the new cartridge works well and sounds great. I only need to plug in a USB thumb drive of any kind and hit record. Out of the box, it records mp3 at 128kbps but you can download a firmware update so it records at 256kbps. The turntable could use a strobe light for speed adjustment to be sure you’re right on 33 1/3 RPM, but a flourescent light and an old strobe disk will work, too. The turntable has no audible rumble, nor audible wow and flutter. It is a belt driven platter with a motor that ‘locks on’ to the selected speed, according to their tech support. I use Sound Forge for recording cleanup of clicks and pops. If it was not for the lower quality cartridge, and lack of a strobe for speed control, I would have given it five stars.

I recently bought this cartridge along with the Technics SL-BD20D and so far I’ve been very satisfied. The sound quality is noticeably better than the included stock cartridge and installation was very easy. Anyways, I wrote this review in response to the one negative review complaining about the excessive hum. With my setup I don’t experience any additional hum. Unfortunately I don’t know enough to tell you why he/she experienced hum and why I didn’t at all. I guess buy at your own risk.

I saw this recommended for use with the Panasonic Technics SLBD20D Semi Automatic Turntable, but it cannot be used with that turntable due to a pronounced hum, even with the ground wire attached. This may be a good cartridge with a different turntable, one with a shielded or distant motor, but not with the SLBD20D. In fact, a brief Google search after I tried to use this cartridge with this turntable produced many references to “the infamous Grado hum” - so perhaps it has this problem with other turntables as well. This problem should surely be mentioned.

I am a moderate hi-fi buff, and when it came to refurbishing an old Gerrard turntable, I chose this cartridge base on other reviews. The fidelity is great for my ears running through an AMC integrated amp into a pair of homebrew MTM Vifa/Scan Speak bookshelf speakers. The response is neutral to warm, and the stereo separation is quite good. Lower end Grado cartridges seem to be as good a bargain as the low end of their cans.

Replaced an old AudioTechnica cartridge with this on a circa 1980 Kenwood turntable and have been amazed at the clarity and detail in the sound. Since this was my first experience with this turntable in my system I have no basis to really compare but couldn’t imagine another cartridge being able to do any better; especially not for this price range.

When I was looking for a new cartridge for my turntable three years ago, I checked several online forums and one of the few things that they agreed on was that the Grado Prestige series was one of the best values. price vs sound quality.
The last 3 years, In my experience has proved them right.
Grado Labs Prestige series starts out with the Black cartridge these use a 3 piece cantilever assembly. The best 15% of the black cartridges in there sound quality tests are the Green cartridges.
Next up the scale are Blue and Red, these use the 4 piece cantilever assembly, with red the best 10% of the blue cartridges.
At the top of the scale are the silver and gold cartridges. these use a 4 peice cantilever assembly and a higher quality copper wire for the windings. the top 5% of the silver become the gold cartridges.
There are also a mono version, a DJ version, and two 78 rpm versions of the Prestige series.

Customer Review: Just as good as vinyl!
I’ve been a DJ/ Turntablist for many years and can tell you that the CDX is the closes you can get to vinyl. I love this thing! Plays MP3 and WAV files just fine. One problem it dose have is it ejects the cd when trying to load. It’s happened a few times now and I’m getting a little nervous about how long it will last before it stops working all together. I gave it 4 stars because for this problem. All in all it’s been a real treat to use.

Ive had these for a while now. They are excelent quality better then the Denon’s Dns-5000. The sound quality is clear, the interface is easy to get used to, and the effects are great. It plays both regular cd’s, burned cd’s and Mp3 cd’s. The platter is extremely smooth and accurate so mixing is easy and has 4 diffrent scratch modes. The BPM counter respons right when you put the track and it has the capability to automatically interlock beats between one cdx and another for those who are just starting out. The search wheel is used for both effects(wetdry) and super fast search.

I wanted a real turntable, and this one delivered. The USB output works well, sound quality is great. The cartridge delivered with the unit was kind of crappy, but nothing that my old Groovemasters didn’t fix. Having a direct drive unit was really critical to me, and the scratching is pretty decent even for a lighter-weight platen.

Despite of all magazine reviews, the Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk2 is the new 1200 of the industry (if you know what i am talking). It has 4 types of pich 6% 10% 16% and Wide (a.k.a 100%) the large very large Dial, that has very touch sensitve feeling so if you are scrach DJ, or any type this is the most versatile dial you can buy… forget denon.. forget techics (the new one.. not the mk2)… this is the baby every one has on raves and big shows. the screen is brighter than the Mk1 version (even do, i havent seen mk1 in action).
it has revers funtions, that allows to back spin the cd even if scraching… also its quick!! loading and un-loading, it has 3 cue points, so if you are undecide , set them up and change your mind with out setting up again the cue points
the only bad thing about this cd player its that its expensive so if you are one of those bedroom DJ, you might wana wait till you get 2k so you can buy a pair.
Customer Review: The classic, professional CD player
I’ve seen this player at clubs all over the country and abroad. Definitely the reference. I’ve owned the non-mk2 version for over 2 years and am totally satisfied with it. The memory card and ability to store cue-point is great: I put a cue point at the beginning of each song which I think is worthwhile on a CD, which makes me see at-a-glance what to listen to in a CD.
Only things I’d like to see is a 4th hotcue point (useful since beats are 4/4), and I’d like to see less of a lag when cueing for scratch, but I guess that’s inherent to the CD format. The lag is very acceptable once you know it’s there.
Also, it would be nice if it was possible to select a cuepoint from the memory card and cue instantly while playing rather than having to do this offline.
Loading is also very fast (compared to the new Technics SL-DZ1200 digital turntable, which takes an annoying 12 seconds to load a CD (good for a living-room stereo, but a club?).
The mk2 has almost nothing more added compared to the normal, non-mk2 one. This annoyingly lowers the selling price of mine for no good reason.
The fact pioneer hasn’t had to release a real new model in years shows how standard this one is, though if they continue this way they’ll be bitten by the competition in pretty much the same way Technics was by Vestax, Stanton, and everybody else. Maybe that’s why they named this one after Technics’ turntables: mk2…

Like other reviewers, I have also used other turntables. I thought, when I decided I wanted to try them out, a turntable is a turntable. My first pair were Numark TT200s. I have also used Gemini and Stanton. I had used other people’s 1200s and noticed what I was missing.
When I finally got around to purchasing (6 years ago) a second hand pair of 1200s that were at least ten years old, covered in stickers and used at countless events, I was blown away by how much better they were than anything else. I was skeptical of buying old equipment, but I checked them out before the transaction. They were still calibrated (checked with the LED on the power switch) and everything. I noticed that these were easier to cue than my old Numarks, as they have a lower torque from the motor. The TT200s have a tendency to speed up beyond the set RPM when you remove your fingers from the side of the platter due to their higher torque, which is supposedly a selling point. The 1200s, on the other hand, will respond precisely to your manipulations and there isn’t any torque feedback that throws your beat matching out of whack, no matter how slight. There is indeed a reason why Technics are the industry standard. I am a true believer now.

the 1200 series (MK2, M3D, and now the MK5) have been the industry standard in record players for over 30 years - not only for broadcast radio, but for every respectable club and DJ in the world. I have had these turntables for over two years and I expect them to perform flawlessly well after I get old and give up my DJing hobby. They are just a rock solid piece of art. Timelessly beautiful.

i find the gemini tt-02 to be a fine product for the relatively meager price. the only drawback is that the turntable is rather large - really quite large - but as I do not leave it out on display - i only take it out when I play LPs - then it all works out fine. would have liked a hard shell dust cover - but that was not included. sound quality is good and the functionality of the table is smooth and much better than my former belt-drive model. i would highly recommend the product despite the obvious quibbles!

Excellent buy for the price. I have Lp’s that are over 50 years old and this turntable tracks them flawlessly. The weight adjustment on arm is of questionable accuracy, but vinyl plays perfectly in the lightest of possible settings. (Counterweight all the way to the rear).

Load up a CD or SD card with MP3 or AAC files, and start looping, mixing, and scratching. There are four cue pads that let you set, save, and cue from the point you specify. It can also memorize up to 50 sets of 10 cue points stored on an SD card, and within these sets you can set cue pads, loops, effects, and auto functions that are then automatically called up each time you load the SD card. The SL-DZ1200 also features four sample pads for editing and playing back samples. Editing functions include setting in/out points, looping, and mixing, and in playback you can even “play” the pads like an instrument to create new music.
A large display located on the center of the deck shows you BPM (beats per minute), elapsed time, remaining time, along with other track and play data. The viewing angle is adjustable so you can read it easily under any conditions. Pitch control is effective through +/-8% to +/-50%, and the pitch lock lets you change the track tempo without affecting the pitch. The SL-DZ1200 features forward and reverse play, and you can switch between them without missing a beat (literally). Or if you want a longer delay, you can turn the switch off to control just how quickly you want the switch to happen. A free wheel function lets you spin the platter freely, just like you can on analog turntables. Digital outputs are included so you can record your music to digital media, and line out and headphone jack are also included.

Customer Review: It really depends on your system and your preferences
I’ve put about 100 hours on one of these cartridges, maybe a little more. It’s still too bright for my ears (on some LPs, not all, which is really frustrating). I gave up on the AT440MLa, and I got one of these to replace it (back when they were $250) thinking it might not be as edgy.
That said, it really brings out the detail and tracks like a freight train. If you have LPs that aren’t in the best of shape, it can make them tolerable. Micro-line styli will do that for you. If your system leans to the warm-ish side, this might be the cart.
Believe it or not, I replaced this cart with a Shure M97xE and find it much easier to listen to. I have tinnitus so that might be a factor, but even when my tinnitus isn’t bothering me, the 150 was still pretty bright. The Shure gives up some detail but jeez, it’s 1/7 of the price ($54 to my door from Amazon). I owned an M97xE previously but sold it because it was so bland (in fact, I believe my review is still out there for the 97). I think I had a duff one. This one is not bland, just smooth.

I am an amateur turntablist, and the Gemini TT04 were my first and let me say, if you just started or you’re relatively new you’re going to love these. Their not to expensive and not too cheap by any means. I’ve used more expensive Numark’s, that dont even compare in quality to the Gemini’s.
With a 5gram tone arm, and a magnetic under plate im surprised they can sell these for less than $500. I definately suggest buying these if your relatively new to the art of turntablism
Customer Review: Great Turntable, Well Worth the Money
I bought this turntable to replace an older technics SL 1200 that had seen it’s day. I didn’t really want to spend a lot of money on another technics. As a DJ mixing deck, I would give the tt04 a 4/5. It performs very well. The only problem I see is that the ultra high torque (5.1 kg) makes it difficult to make adjustments in the mix. If you normally speed up and slow down your vinyl by manipulating the platter or placing your finger on the label of the record, it takes some getting used to, as it takes a lot of force to get the platter to slow down. As a scratch deck this one gets 5/5 for the high torque and the straight tone arm. It starts and stops on a dime, and the start stop times are adjustable. I also use the reverse function a lot for effects and the +/- 20% pitch comes in handy too.
If you are looking for the best bang for your buck, I would go with this deck. At the price I found it on amazon you can’t beat the value. If you are thinking about just starting to DJ this deck will last you several years unlike the more inexpensive decks that will be useless to you after 5 or 6 months. If you are already and experienced DJ this deck will certainly do fine. Gemini used to be the slum of the DJ equipment market but I am truly impressed by this turntable. Unbeatable for the price.

I got a pair of these used a few months back. I’m fairly new to spinning, I spin mostly techno, and happy hardcore. For the price I payed for them they are decent, with a good amount of torque making them good to learn on. Only thing is they could use a bit more feature. But over all they are worth it.

I used this cartridge for about a year and came to both love it and hate it…
On the love side: The Grado Prestige Blue is a slightly warm and lively sounding and inviting musical cartridge right out of the box. One of it’s strong, direct, and prominent qualities is how exceptionally well the middle and bass frequencies are presented.The mids and bass are punchy giving a very sonically centralized imaging. Some may like this and claim that the Grado is filling the gap in between the stereo sound stage (some cartridges either offer a wonderful 3- dimensional enhanced or widely dispersed stereo holographic-like imaging which others will debate and say that only makes for a very thin, hollow, or empty sounding quality). Yet, others may disagree and claim the sound stage sounds almost mono and does not reperesent a well spaced out or wide stereo soundscape! The mids give a “you are there” sonic impression and presence. Bass output is generous but not overwhelming. As for the reproduction of highs, well, certain types of music showed the cartridge’s strengths and weaknesses. Overall soundlevel is great and does not require you to crank up your stereo volume whereas other cartridges in this price range tend to be weak in the output category.Playing jazz and acoustical lp selections really demonstrated what this cart can do.Instruments sounded natural. Guitar strings had that airy, plucky quality to them.The Grado works best with such type of music.Even electronic New Age music sounded organic instead of cold and electronically harsh.Another big plus is how quiet record/vinyl surface noise becomes as opposed to other cartridges that seem to amplify the drawbacks of vinyl with dust and microscopic debris in the groove walls. For under the $100 mark the Prestige Blue offers a certain amount of audiophle sound quality…
On the hate side:Loud rock music passages or fast moving modulations proved the Blue Prestige to be a weak tracker.The highs produced by electric guitars would often break up and crackle.Basically, anything with a tremendous amount of musical energy and bursts would really put the cartridge under duress or stress. The Blue Prestige lacked the ability to track the inner groove wall towards the end of a record with crystal clear precision that it offers in the beginning.Sibilants (words beginning and ending with letters s,f,z,t, and p)began to sound edgy in the last couple of tracks on a record side. Also, if you own a direct drive turntable (Technics or other brand) there is a slight audible hum as the cartridge passes close or towards the motor due to cartridge being poorly shielded. It has to do with Grado using iron in the cartridge and the magnet/magnetic electrical field produced by a direct drive motor…One final note, the Grado is not a light audiophile tracker. I learned that the best possible way to get great sound out of it was to go heavy on the tracking (2 to 2.5 g and 3 on anti-skate—-this is not normally recommended as this will really eat your records and the cartridge as well)!
A better alternative in the below $100 budget audiophile segment would be the Audio Technica AT 440ML of which I’ve had the privilege of also owning. The qualities that the Grado Blue Prestige lacks can be easily found in the Audio Technica ! Or the Shure V15VxMR (though, there is a great significance and increase in both sound accuracy reproduction and price)!
At best, the Grado Prestige Blue is a modest and decent sounding cartridge when used with certain types of music.It’s stereo soundstage representation/imaging is not as widely dispersed or enhanced as the Audio Technica’s. It is also not the accurately immense sibilant and vocal tracker that the audiophile Shure V15VxMR is…However,what you may not find sonically to your liking with either the Shure or Audio Technica, you will find with the Grado and vice-versa. Don’t get me wrong. The Grado Prestige Blue almost rivals these two and has it’s own rewarding musical and sonic strengths ! I would have given it a 4 star, but the fact it cannot track certain consonants/sibilants with accuracy througout the entire record and requires some heavy tracking for great sound makes a great difference to this audiophile’s ears !

Customer Review: Near Perfect Reproduction Of Studio Intended Sound!
I Purchased this from a diffrent site, for the same amount listed here. Anyways, this cartridge/stylus is the biggest bang for your buck by far. I just installed this on my turntable and right away the diffrence was know. If you are upgrading from a factory installed cartridge on a lower end turntable, then you shound consider purchasing a anti-static cleaning brush, so that it will remove 99% of your dust. The reason I say this is that this cartridge will pick up everything even the slightest particle.
Pros:
Cheap as compared to other brands and the frequency range is amazing considering the price. The Gold over the Silver is slightly noticible on mediokre systems, but on Hi-Fi systems it becomes clear why it is of the top 5% of production. This truly brings your records to life. If you like the Beatles, and you have an album in near mint condidtion, it sounds as if they are preforming right in front of you. The Coldplay X&Y album’s vocals are austounding, specificly on “Fix You”.
Cons:
It is not the absolute best out ther, but in all honesty, if you want to go higher than this look to spend in the neighborhood of $500 for a real nice cartridge. Other than that I haven’t seen any problems with this what so ever.
Other Thoughts:
It recomends a tracking force of 1.5, but i went just a little less than that as to better preserve my albums.

Grado has been the great maker in America for decades. Joe is the designer and opera singer; his brother has taken over running the business. I have been using their whole range for years. This model gives you entrance into the real high end.
If you cannot afford it, then go to a lesser model. They make no junk even at the lowest cost.
The reason I give 4 stars is because Grado goes into very high models that Amazon does not carry. I have used the top of the line with great satisfaction. There are also other brands to consider once you get over $500.
The other great brands that Amazon carries are Sure and Otrophon. Aamzon does not carry their full lines, but they are well worth mentioning.

I purchased a Well-Tempered Record Player (Record Player is the model name of the turntable) in ‘99, started with a Grado Sonata, and a Grado Red as a backup cart; The Sonata sounded great, but expensive. Then tried a Shure 97; sounded ok. Then I tried a Denon 103. Sounded very good, energetic, lots of shimmer on cymbals. Then I tried the Grado Red. What a revelation. You don’t have to spend a fortune on a cart to get it all. Soundstage, bass, sweet from top to bottom. I’ll never need another cart for my TT. However, a word of warning; No piece of equipment is going to work for all applications. If your TT has a motor that sits close to the spindle axle, or under it, you might get hum as the cart gets toward the end of the record, and closer to the motor; My motor is on the opposite side from the tonearm, connected to the platter via a belt, so I don’t have to worry about it.

Customer Review: Disenchanted
Several months ago I purchased the Stanton ST-150 to replace my aged Benjamin Miracord. I bought it 1 because I thought that Stanton was a reputable company. I’ve used their cartridges for years. And 2 because of the reviews I read.
I took the turntable out of the box and went through the adjustments to set it up. I hooked up the analog cables and turned on my receiver and out comes a hum. Nothing I do can get rid of the hum until I unplug the cables. I think… maybe it’s not compatible with an older receiver. So I connect it up to my Denon AVR 2105. Same result, a hum. Next I connect the digital output of the ST150 to the digital input of the Denon (I remove the analog connections first). Now it plays without a hum… but only through 1 channel, the right one. The left channel is dead.
I tried contacting Stanton through their WEB site [...] to explain my problem and seek advice. The email either comes back as undeliverable or goes un-answered. I’m so unhappy with my purchase I’ve put it up for sale.
Customer Review: Top Notch Turns
These turns are awesome, and better than any other turns out there; yeah they’re even better than the latest Technics, which are not much of an improvement over their previous versions. The reason these are better is because Stanton put a lot of research into these bad boys, whereas Technics have taken for granted their status. Now they’re paying for it.
The high torque adds a real quality feel as you manipulate your records, and I do guess that these will last for a while, unlike many old Technics which you have to push in order to not get that lagging sound. There are also knobs on these turns to adjust the brake and start speeds, just in case you want that lag sound. The platter is very stable, and the entire unit is heavy, which is a positive thing when talking about quality turns (stability). If you like to scratch, these bad boys will not let you skip note, assuming the hole for the spindle is not too large (just put some tape in there to get a tight fit). I would say that these are top notch, but don’t pay $499. I paid like $400 or $420, so look around and buy from a reputable company. A+ all the way.

Read dj website reviews, they are accurate. This is a great turntable.
A common problem is hum. I solved my hum problem by putting a 2-prong adapter on the 3-prong power cord. That completely eliminated a very loud hum. The turntable is now as quiet as all the other components I have connected.
Solutions seem to vary.
Hum can also be avoided by ONLY connecting the digital coax and using that; but then, I was having an occasional dropout problem. Solving the hum problem now seems the better way and I suspect may have also fixed the dropout problem.
I haven’t tried the phono output.
Customer Review: Amazing Turntable
I had been studing this turntable for almost two years testing it against other tables in it’s class and using it side by side with the Technics 1200. It has proven itself to me a very powerful piece of equipment. The torque instantly improved my skills as a turntablist. The stabilty amazed me, as I’m been scratching for about a combined 10 hours and it hasn’t skipped yet. The 680Hp cartridges are excellent at holding their groove and the sound quality is also beautiful. The only two things that I found as a downside were the weight (36 pounds) and the Hyper White LED light is plug in and not pop-up. Being a mobile Dj it is a good thing to have a lot of weight when you are playing but bad when you are moving.

Customer Review: A Classic
It’s one of the classic turntables out there & it’s built like a tank. Mine (at least the one I picked up) of course didn’t come with a stylus so you will have to get one of those… but it’s a great turntable. Good sound quality (depending on the stylus you use - try Grado’s if you’ve got the cash to burn) and well made.
Except for one design flaw… the output wiring. The output wiring (white/red) that you would put into your mixer or phono pre-amp isn’t that great. That wouldn’t be so annoying - except that you have to dis-assemble the bottom of the table (just unscrew the mat) to actually be able to unplug the bloody thing to make the changes and put a better cable in there or replace the cable if need be… and you DO NOT want to do that or void your warranty if it’s new. Cables bust & go bad… IMO they should’ve made it easier to dis-assemble that & not built it into the table.
But otherwise, it’s a great table that’ll do you well with the right mixer & cartridges, of course.

The technics direct drive table that you are looking at is a great buy for anyone. The technics tables have a great rep. amoung D.J’s for being a very well built and sturdy turntable. A direct drive is they way to go if you are looking to do any back cueing, and scratching. This is due to the fact that a belt driven turntable will burn the belt and distroy the motor. I had pretty much the same experience as CroquetMan. I would add that when I contacted Thorens US representative, there was no effort made to stand behind the product. Rather, he just referred me to a parts supplier for parts that did not fix the problem. There are other, better choices for a turntable out there.
Customer Review: Unreliable
I purchased this turntable as a replacement for my old Garrard turntable that lasted for 35 years and was still operational, although it had some minor problems. It was a mistake. The Thorens barely lasted a year of light use, then the motor began to run slow (I only used the 33 speed, so who knows if the 78 ever worked?), and eventually it just stopped moving altogether. In addition, the Ortofon cartridge/stylus had an uncanny tendency to either press into a record or else ride so high that it lifted off the surface more often than it played, in spite of constant attempts to adjust the tonearm, cue, cartridge, etc. I had had an Ortofon on my Garrard without such problems, and even my inexpensive Gemini turntable never had such problems (it still runs).
Overall, this is a cheap unit that costs a great deal of money. Do not be fooled by thinking it is a way to play 78s and 33s. It quickly winds up playing nothing, leaving you about $500 in the hole.
